Their music keeps playing inside your head. You have memorized every line of their songs and croon with them as they learn how to play drums and their best hits. You love how their drummers hit their drums, how the guitarists strum their guitars and how the vocalists utter every word of their songs. American Idol Season 10 updates - Scotty McCreery wins American Idol Season 10

(Reuters) - Deep-voiced country singer Scotty McCreery won the tenth season of "American Idol" on Wednesday, defeating rival Lauren Alaina who had been dubbed the front-runner by the show's judges heading into the night.
McCreery, 17, hugged the other "Idol" contestants from the season and his family after host Ryan Seacrest proclaimed him the winner of the television singing competition.

"Never in my wildest dreams. I got to thank the Lord first. He got me here," McCreery said.

A grocery store clerk from Garner, North Carolina, McCreery sang "I Love You This Big," his first single, before a packed audience on the live broadcast -- and then tried to catch the confetti raining down on him in his mouth.

A record 122 million votes were cast by phone, text message and online after McCreery and Alaina -- both country singers -- each gave their final performances on Tuesday.

Alaina, 16, emerged as the judges' favorite on Tuesday after overcoming a blown out vocal chord to deliver an emotional performance dedicated to her mother. But backstage following the show, Alaina said she had expected McCreery to take home the title.

"I told him at the beginning of the episode, 'Scotty are you ready to win?'" Alaina said. "He's my best friend and I love him and I couldn't be happier for him."

Also backstage, McCreery joked that with the win under his belt he'd like to spend some time "on the couch watching some 'SportsCenter' and eating some chips."

The results were announced following a two-hour star-studded live broadcast that included performances from Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Judas Priest and even new "Idol" judges Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

McCreery won over audiences during the season with his distinctive voice and a poise onstage that belies his youth. He is the first country music champion since Carrie Underwood took the title in 2005 and went on to become the top "Idol" earner in terms of record sales and tours.

When asked about plans for his album, McCreery said he's focused on getting good songs.

"It's all about the songs after this," he said.

McCreery's win marked the fourth straight year that a male contestant has won the competition.

As the new "American Idol," McCreery wins a record contract with a Universal Music Group record label. An album of songs McCreery performed during the season was released Tuesday, exclusively on the iTunes music store. Alaina's songs from the season are also being sold as an album on iTunes, and she has her own single, "Like My Mother Does."

Now in its 10th year, "American Idol" has been a ratings juggernaut for Fox and the nation's most-watched TV show for the last seven years.a

Adele set to overshadow Beastie Boys on U.S. chart

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - After a slow week on the U.S. pop album chart, where the top 10 didn't greet a single new entry when data were unveiled Wednesday, next week's tally should liven up a bit, thanks to bevy of new releases.
While Adele's "21" is on track to spend a seventh nonconsecutive week atop the Billboard 200, the rest of the top five could be filled with debuts.
The new "Now 38" compilation -- released to coincide with Mother's Day on Sunday -- could arrive in the No. 2 slot. Industry sources suggest it could sell around 110,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, May 8.
Aiming for about the same sales launch is the Beastie Boys' "Hot Sauce Committee Part 2," which will be fighting it out for the No. 2 slot.
The hip-hop trio's previous set, the instrumental album "The Mix-Up," debuted at No. 15 in July 2007 with 44,000 units. That was a far cry from the opening week numbers for 2004's "To the 5 Boroughs," which debuted at No. 1 with 360,000.
Next in line could be Fleet Foxes' second full-length album "Helplessness Blues" (perhaps 80,000) and then "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez's "Love?" (60,000). Fleet Foxes' last album, its 2008 self-titled set, debuted at No. 83 -- though it eventually peaked at No. 36 the following year.
J. Lo's last English-language album, 2007's "Brave," bowed at No. 12 with 53,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. Her new album is led by the single "On the Floor" (featuring Pitbull), which has so far peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and shifted 1.6 million downloads.
Also aiming for likely top 10 entries are Stevie Nicks' "In Your Dreams" and Musiq Soulchild's "Musiqinthemagiq."
One notable re-entry next week might be Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" album, which is profiting from the power of Fox's "Glee." The TV series dedicated its entire May 3 episode to the 1977 album -- which spent 31 weeks atop the chart. Six of the set's 11 songs were performed by the cast, while another was heard in its original form as background music.
Adele's "21" sold 124,000 during the week ended May 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Total sales stand at 1.4 million after 10 weeks.

Country music stars to stage tornado fundraiser

(Reuters) - Country music stars Hank Williams Jr., Keith Urban, Tim McGraw and the band Lady Antebellum are to hold a concert to raise funds for victims of storms and tornadoes that struck Alabama and nearby states, organizers said on Thursday.
Country Music Television, which will air the live special next week, and organizers said they felt the devastation was overshadowed by media coverage of the British royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and news that a U.S. strike team killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.
"The other seismic news events of the past few days have had the unintended effect of limiting media coverage of this massive, historic American disaster," CMT President Brian Philips said in a statement.
"Simply put, CMT and our artists will not allow this to happen. We will raise money, and we will shine the brightest possible light on the urgent needs of our courageous neighbors," he said.
CMT will air the benefit concert live from Nashville, Tennessee, on May 12. All money raised will benefit American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
About 350 people were killed last week by tornadoes and flooding in the southern United States. More than 230 people died in Alabama alone.
Williams, the 61 year-old son of late country music legend Hank Williams, took the first steps to organizing the benefit concert when he reached out to CMT executives.
"Alabama is home -- I am really pumped about helping," Williams said in a statement.
The 90-minute concert will also feature Ronnie Dunn, formerly of the duo Brooks & Dunn, singer Sara Evans, the band Alabama and others.
The storms are estimated to have destroyed or damaged more than 13,000 homes across six U.S. states, according to the American Red Cross.

Steven Tyler to debut first U.S. solo single on "Idol"

Photo(Reuters) - "American Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tylerwill premiere the video of his first U.S. solo single on the television talent show next week, broadcaster Fox said.

Additionally, Lady Gaga will mentor the four remaining contestants on the top-rated show as they battle for a place in the finals.

The music video of Tyler's new single "(It) Feels so Good", will be shown on the "American Idol" results show on May 12, Fox said.

Tyler, 63, has been embroiled for almost two years in a feud with his Aerosmith bandmates that was further strained when he accepted a job as a judge on "American Idol" this season.

Tyler, who has just published a tell-all memoir "Does this Noise in My Head Bother You?", told Rolling Stone magazine last week that he had to fight off a legal threat to toss him out of the band that he co-founded 40 years ago so that he could join "Idol".

Relations between Tyler and his four bandmates hit a low in 2009 after he fell off the stage and broke his shoulder, forcing the Aerosmith tour to be canceled. The band responded by going public with threats to find another singer.

Tyler said last week however that he had written to the band members seeking a detente and a desire to return to the studio to record what would be the first Aerosmith album of new material since 2001
