MB – The grand finals of “Pilipinas Got Talent" Season 2 is going to be a battle among singers, dancers, a hula hoop act and possibly a magician.
A shoo-in for the Top 12 are ballroom dancers Leohiel Enopia and Elizabeth Dazo, who amassed the most number of nationwide text and online votes---34.06% of the total votes.
Also in the lineup are Marcelito Po Moy; DJP Trio (singing group); Buildex Pagales (singer); John Michael Narag (singer); Filogram (dance group); Freestylers (dance group); Madrigal Siblings (singers); B4 (dance group); Angel Canlas (hula hoop act); Happy Feet (tap dancers); and Jose Emmanuel "Jem" Cubil (singer).
DJP Trio |
In an era where girls less than 12 years old are busy ‘fangirling’ to Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus, the DJP Trio belts out songs of celebrated singer Barbra Streisand. Comprised of 10-year-old friends Danielle Barron, Jeanny Padilla, Pauline Kaye Dimarana from Negros Occidental, they’ve already won the hearts of judges delas Alas and Aquino the first time the trio set foot on the “PGT” stage, with both judges exclaiming, “Ang cu-cute niyo!”
But more than their cuteness, these three showcase a vocal range that belie their age. With their pretty faces, wit and outstanding costume, these girls are sure to be a tough competition for the adult finalists.
Buildex Pagales |
Another singer that stands out among the finalists is Digos City’s Buildex Pagales, dubbed on Twitter as "Bruno Mars of the Philippines." Already, the 15-year-old crowd favorite has a large fan base, which actually put him on the Top 10 trending topics on Twitter worldwide after his performance of Bruno Mars’ “Billionaire” and “Just The Way You Are" on Mar. 13. “Nakakaaliw sya kasi ang linaw nyang kumanta,” Aquino commented. The judge also lauded the boy's diction and aura.
Angel Calalas |
Meanwhile, who would have thought hula hoops can get one into the "PGT" top 12? Surely Certainly not 22-year-old Angel Calalas from Cainta, Rizal. Other than the uniqueness of Calalas’ act, her determination to reinvent her act had been her strongest edge in the competition, wherein she even lit her hoops on fire in one of her performances---an act that made her popular on social media sites.
Happy Feet |
Adding a streak of modernity to tap dancing on the “PGT” stage is Happy Feet. Composed of brothers Lordito (21) and Ramonito (21) Mata from Bukidnon, Happy Feet is truly a breath of fresh air in a talent show where most contending dance groups opt to do terrifying headstands and gravity-defying spin-jumps. The blog Bukidnon Online recently reported that the brothers were the first two acts from Mindanao to advance to the “PGT” Season 2 Finals.
But following the announcement of a wild card competition set for this week, 14 finalists, not 12, will give it a go during the grand finals. The wild card contenders are Rico Sahorjo (magician), Skeights (singing group), Collins Gutierrez (singer), Next Generation Band (singer), Kenny Padalla (singer) and Joy's Divas (singing group).
The plot thickens.
