AMERICAN IDOL NEWS ! - Thia Megia comes out of her shell, fights back on 'Idol'

(MB) MANILA, Philippines -- Fil-Am Top 10 finalist Thia Megia proves herself as not just a ballad singer by fighting back and redeeming the judges’ nod during “American Idol’s” Motown performance night, March 24 (Manila time).

Thia performed Martha and the Vandellas’ “Heatwave,” an upbeat song far different from the ballads “Out Here On My Own” and “Colors Of The Wind” that she had sung in the previous weeks.

“Okay! Now I feel like we’re scratching the surface a little bit with you right there. It was great to see you let loose like that. Wow! Who knew? I didn’t and I wasn’t sure but now that we’re going there. I need you to dig even deeper each week. You know you’re 16 years old and I don’t expect you to have the live experience in the world to bring what you need to bring to the lyrics but part of performing is acting and you have to bring that every time, so always make sure you connect with the lyrics so you can bring even more because I just see, now I know, you got it in you,” an ecstatic Jennifer Lopez exclaimed.

Randy Jackson agreed with J.Lo but urged Thia to be more adventurous when it comes to making choices.

“The reason you’re here, cause we knew you had it in you right? And the public is definitely resounding with that because you’ve been here every week. This new thing is a good thing because I know this has been tough for you the last couple of weeks. But I got to say it’s about taking chances. You took a chance tonight and you didn’t sing a really safe ballad although I still feel you can dig deeper and you can do more with it. Take more vocal chances. You can really sing and I want you to believe and I’m happy to see you move up a notch tonight with something different, congrats on that. Take some chances, continue! Push!” he said.

Maintaining a brief stance, Steven Tyler quipped: “You’ve taken a step out, I love it. Just great! I’m good. I’m good with it.”

As competition heats up in the 10th season “Idol,” Thia has been a fan favorite and has produced a strong following. The youngest contender ever at 16 years old, Thia is following on the footsteps of Jasmine Trias and Camille Velasco (Season 3, 2004), and Ramiele Malubay (Season 7, 2008)

Yeng reveals inspiration behind love songs

(MB) MANILA, Philippines – “Pinoy Dream Academy” first Grand Star Dreamer Yeng Constantino has admitted that guys sometimes serve as inspiration for the love songs she writes.

She divulged in an interview by push.com.ph dated March 23, held after the recently concluded MYX Music Awards.

However, the "ASAP Rocks" mainstay said that no one is courting her at the moment.

Not bothered having a seemingly quiet love life, Yeng said, “all the stuffs that i'm doin' is for God, for His glory, next is my family and then my supporters. I just want to be the best in all aspect of my life especially for       Him.”

To her, matters of the heart will come in God's time.

More, the singer addressed the rumor that came up last year, romantically linking her with Rivermaya vocalist Jayson Fernandez. Offering an explanation why they did not end up being together, she said, “What happen to us? Maybe where not that fit. He's kind, but personalities aside, their should be connection.”

According to her, they never even dated, opting to see where their friendship would lead. “As friends    , where connected to but for the romantic side of relationship, none.”

Marie Digby to raise funds for victims of recent Japanese tragedy

(MB) MANILA, Philippines – YouTube sensation Marie Digby is making it her mission to alleviate the sufferings of those affected by the recent tragedy that struck her homeland, Japan.

In an interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, March 20, Digby admits she is very much hurt with and saddened by the disaster and how it had affected a great number of her countrymen, as well as overseas Filipino workers and their families. As such, she hopes to somehow help raise funds for the victims by holding charitable events.

“People are in dire need help the need food, they need shelter, they need water, they need gasoline and other things,” said she. “[And] I’m gonna do whatever I can to give back, to help [them] through my music. Maybe record an album and do concerts [to raise funds].”

Digby, who is of Japanese-Irish-American descent, said she was in Japan when the 8.9 magnitude quake hit.

“I was actually with my mom and we were in an elevator going up to our apartment,” she said. “[The building] was shaking so violently and we couldn’t stand up.”

“We were luckily unharmed and that is unfortunately not the case for many thousands of people in Japan.”

Among those who made an effort to reach out to her and make sure she and her family were okay was actor Sam Milby, a close friend.

“It was really very nice of him,” she said. “It was really heartwarming.”

In the same interview, Digby relayed a message to her countrymen and to Filipinos still in Japan.

“Stay strong. The world is gonna be there to aid you and I’m gonna do whatever I can to give back as well.”

Digby carved a niche in popular consciousness via her video covers, most famous of which featured Rihanna's "Umbrella," which she uploaded via YouTube. The song became a breakout hit, allowing for Digby to reach #10 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart—a listing of 25 singles below 100 that have not yet charted on Billboard's Hot 100.

In 2007, The Wall Street Journal revealed that prior to her internet success, Digby was already signed to Hollywood Records, going on to allege that Digby faked her amateur status as a publicity strategy.

Digby responded to the article via her blog, explaining that she never claimed to be an amateur and that she never hid her being signed to Hollywood Records. She explained that her YouTube videos were her own "desperate" response to a lack of promotion.

To date, Digby has already released three albums under the label.

Lead singer cites reasons for breaking up Sugarfree

(MB) MANILA, Philippines — Former Sugarfree lead singer Ebe Dancel confronted stops and starts March 1 when the band performed its final gig at the Eastwood City in Libis.

Dancel, who happens to be the band’s chief songwriter, told Bulletin Entertainment, “Lahat ng simula may wakas (incidentally, the band’s debut album was titled ‘Sa Wakas’). Kailangan ko muna umalis sa banda to try and figure out what’s in store in the future.”

He clarified, however, there were no harms and fouls in his exit.

“Ang importante nag-usap kami [members of the band] at nakapagpaalam sa isa’t-isa.”

A few months back, the “Hari Ng Sablay” hitmaker announced he was to go solo. He will release a full CD outing under Warner Music this summer.

Sugarfree bass player Jal Taguibao said he will concentrate teaching Political Science, his day job at the University of the Philippines while drummer Kaka Quisumbing will now have more time child-rearing.

Taguibao expressed, “[More than anything else, it had been a] privilege for us to do this graceful exit na sa iba hindi nila na-control na maging ganun.”

No reunions in the future
When Bulletin Entertainment asked if Dancel sees Sugarfree doing a The Dawn (Read: The Dawn resigned their instruments only to reunite years later), he turned down the possibility.

“People should not expect something like that. I can’t make promises I can’t keep,” said Dancel.

He then reminisced: “We were a bunch of normal guys who just wanted to play at [famous underground rock venues] Mayrics (along España, Manila) and ’70s Bistro (in Quezon City).”

Dancel admitted that while he penned a healthy catalogue for the band, “Things will never be the same but I’m still the same guy writing.”

At the end of the day, he wanted to recuperate from what he felt a taxing band grind.

He reasoned out, “In the meantime, I needed to take a break. Napagod ako especially sa last tour namin.”

The band left no hit unsung during the goodbye concert titled “Paalam Pilipinas.” The group performed four sets that included “Hari Ng Sablay,” “Mariposa,” “Huwag Ka Nang Umiyak,” the “Panday” theme “Makita Kang Muli,” “Kung Ayaw Mo Na Sa Akin.”

Sugarfree was last heard singing “Tulog Na” and “Burnout.”

Backstage, the scene was filled with rock luminaries like Buddy Zabala, Raimund Marasigan, and director Quark Henares who introduced the band. Other attendees included ex-True Faith members Ferdie Marquez and Francis Guevarra and Jericho Rosales.

The gig, which saw original drummer Mitch Singson play with Kaka Quisumbing in a two-drum setup, was heard live via Jam 88.3.

Sugarfree had a good 12-year run concluded on record via its last CD “Mornings and Airports,” that was released with live orchestra for back-up.

American Idol Season 10 Updates - 'American Idol' sends another finalist home

LOS ANGELES – "American Idol" viewers are saying adios to Karen Rodriguez.
The bubbly, bilingual 21-year-old wannabe diva from New York, who crooned Taylor Dayne's "Love Will Lead You Back" in English and Spanish on the Fox talent competition Wednesday, was revealed Thursday to have received the fewest viewer votes. The judges decided against saving her following a last-chance performance of Mariah Carey's "Hero."
"It just felt great to at least have that one chance," Rodriguez said after her swan song.
Haley Reinhart, the 20-year-old college student from Wheeling, Ill., who belted out Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" while smudging her lipstick, and Naima Adedapo, the 26-year-old dance instructor from Milwaukee who delivered a pitchy rendition of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do with It," joined Rodriguez as the bottom three vote-getters.
Before the elimination, the top 12 finalists plowed through a mash-up of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."
The Black Eyed Peas later dedicated a performance of "Just Can't Get Enough" to their "friends in Japan," and last year's "Idol" winner Lee DeWyze offered advice to this season's brood after singing "Beautiful Like You."
"Just remember why you tried out in the first place," DeWyze told the contestants. "At the end of the of the day, no matter when you leave, you still love music, and you're gonna keep doing it. You guys are fine no matter what happens."
The other remaining finalists are Casey Abrams, 20, of Idyllwild, Calif.; Lauren Alaina, 16, of Rossville, Ga.; James Durbin, 22, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; Stefano Langone, 21, of Kent, Wash.; Jacob Lusk, 23, of Compton, Calif.; Scotty McCreery, 17, of Garner, N.C.; Paul McDonald, 26, of Nashville, Tenn.; Thia Megia, 16, of Mountain House, Calif.; and Pia Toscano, 22, of Howard Beach, N.Y.(yahoo)

R.E.M. in fine form on 'Collapse into Now'

R.E.M., "Collapse Into Now" (Warner Bros.)
The fifteenth studio album from R.E.M. finds the band at turns combative and mellow. The opening song, "Discoverer," could have been a bonus track on "Accelerate." It's all hard-driving guitars and that classic Stipe growl.
With ten of the dozen tracks under four minutes, "All The Best" follows quickly with a challenge to the younger generation: "I think I'll sing in a rhyme/I'll give it one more time/I'll show the kids how to do it fine, fine, fine."
The album then hits its stride with a quartet of contemplative songs: "UBerlin," "Oh My Heart," "It Happened Today" and "Every Day is Yours to Win." This is the R.E.M. mainstream audiences love. Stipe's lyrics are sung poetry over the top of Peter Buck's simple chords.
The biggest misfire is the final track, "Blue." Patti Smith's guest vocal is mostly lost amid Stipe's monotone reading of a poem. Diehard R.E.M. fans may deconstruct it for meaning, but at more than five minutes it literally stops the momentum of an otherwise well-balanced album.
CHECK OUT THIS TRACK: "It Happened Today" features Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder backing up Stipe during the chorus before they together belt out a wordless harmony in a song that would be fun to see performed live. Alas, R.E.M. says they don't plan to tour behind this (yahoo)

Britney Spears May Appear On 'Ellen DeGeneres'

Singer is rumored to be taping skits and a performance for shows at the end of March.
With less than two weeks until the release of Femme Fatale, it seems Britney Spears is amping up her promotion.
After appearing on the covers of V and Out (she's also rumored to grace the June cover of Harper's Bazaar), now Spears is reportedly taping appearances for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," according to MuuMuse.com.
Spears last appeared on Ellen's show in December 2008 in a skit alongside the comedian. The ladies, both wearing Dickensian clothing, went caroling together. This time around, Spears would appear in more skits on the March 28 and 29 episodes with a performance airing March 30.
A rep for the singer couldn't confirm the report, and a rep for the show never responded to MTV News' request for comment by press time. A rep for Harper's Bazaar also hadn't responded to MTV News about the reports she will grace the cover.
"I think Femme Fatale speaks for itself," Spears told V. "I worked really hard on it and spent almost two years recording it. I think it's the best album I have ever made. There's nothing to say. I'll let the music speak for itself. ... It's definitely my edgiest and most mature sound yet.
"It's a little bit of [an evolution and a revolution]," she continued. "There are songs on this album that don't sound like anything else and are completely revolutionary, but I also believe this album expresses where I am today as a woman and is an evolution of who I am."(mtv)

American Idol Season 10 Updates - 'American Idol' Top 12: Jacob Lusk Has Heart, Pia Toscano Picks It Up

It was an evening of surprises on "American Idol" Wednesday night (March 16). From the first song by grunge icons Nirvana to a show-closing gospel throw-down on a tune by Heart, leading contenders Pia Toscano, Jacob Lusk and Casey Abrams continued their winning ways, while teen Lauren Alaina appeared to get back in the groove after an off week.
The theme this week was songs from the year you were born, and first up was Naima Adedapo, who worked up Tina Turner's comeback hit "What's Love Got to do With It." Slinking down the steps in one of her signature colorful getups, Adedapo struggled a bit to find the melody over the rocked-up, percussive track produced by Rodney Jerkins. The performance had plenty of attitude but failed to really show off Naima's range.
In his first attempt at live feedback, Steven Tyler blasted off, whooping it up and telling the singer she had a "sorcerer's grasp for melody." Jennifer Lopez admitted that she gave Naima a pass last week on her pitchiness, but said she was starting to worry it was not a one-time thing and encouraged Adedapo to kick it up a notch. Randy Jackson agreed, saying it was just kind of a mess and all over the place.
Another 1984 baby, bearded rocker Paul McDonald, went with Elton John's subtle ballad "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues." Sounding even more hoarse than usual, McDonald tried to get the crowd behind him while he did his rag-doll dance and croaked his way through a bland version of the song, always seemingly half a beat behind the tempo.
Lopez could sense Paul's struggle with a cold, but said his star quality overwhelmed it, though Randy was not as charitable, saying Paul was pitchy but still found a way to put his unique spin on the song. "But get the notes right!" Randy added, as Steven opined that McD defines "a cool dude in a loose mood."
Thia Megia is one of the babies of the bunch, born in 1995, the same year the Disney movie "Pocahontas" was released, featuring "Colors of the Wind" by Vanessa Williams. Backed by a gently plucked acoustic guitar and a string quartet, Megia came off a bit pageanty with her long, golden dress as she sang the song's corny lyrics, but once again her vocals were incredibly clear and precise for someone her age.
For Randy, the singing was just OK, but his real problem was the predictable, safe nature of her song choices from week to week. Though he praised her vocals, Steven wondered, "Is that song who you think you are?"
Resident rocker James Durbin, born in 1989, went with Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You," not exactly the Jersey band's most notable hit. Doing his best Axl Rose-meets-Jon Bon snarl, Durbin worked the stage like an arena-rock veteran, swinging his mic stand, leaning in for some shoulder-to-shoulder with the guitar player, doling out audience high-fives and ending it all with a rock jump and what host Ryan Seacrest referred to as "JV pyro."
You knew Tyler was gonna dig it. "I got leftover sandwiches under my bed older than that, how do you do that?" he marveled at Durbin's young talent, while warning him to avoid getting too poppy. Jennifer said a great performer makes you want to sing along with them, and she said JD is definitely one of those singers.
Haley Reinhart was born in 1990 into a musical family, and she paid homage by getting back in her R&B groove with a swing at "I'm Your Baby Tonight" by Whitney Houston. Producer Ron Fair's funked-up, new-wave arrangement seemed to throw her at first, but then Haley laid into a Christina Aguilera-like groove, growling and emoting her way through the song, which fit her style way better than last week's detour into country territory.
In what is emerging as her signature sweet putdown, J.Lo told Haley she looked beautiful and has a beautiful voice but that she seems tense and unsure onstage. "Do what you feel, don't force anything, do what comes naturally," she counseled. Jackson said Haley's hopscotching from style to style is making it hard to pin her musical personality down.
Stefano Langone (1989) was right in the pocket with Simply Red's soul-stirring "If You Don't Know Me by Now." He confidently sang the goopy ballad as if working the crowd at a wedding (or office karaoke party), showing off the range, emotion and vocal clarity that earned him a wild-card berth.
"The best performance of the night so far!" Randy raved, handing out an Olympic-gymnastics-style 10-10-10 rating. Steven loved the phrasing, and Lopez said it was the perfect song choice that could win him the whole thing — as long as he locked eyes with her a bit more while he performed.
After emerging as a potential winner a few weeks ago, Pia Toscano (1988) also knows what works, which is why she chose Houston's "Where Do Broken Hearts Go." Working her magic over the thumping disco-lite track, Toscano gave it her glitter-ball best, tossing up emotion and solid vocals but falling a bit short in the stagecraft department.
"You are why this show is called 'American Idol,' " Tyler said, clearly impressed with Pia despite what he referred to as a "retro" arrangement. Jennifer was psyched to hear PT try out an uptempo song for once, and Randy put the other 11 singers on notice that Toscano is in it to win it.
Bullfrog-voiced country crooner Scotty McCreery (1993) stayed firmly in his lane with Travis Tritt's "Can I Trust You With My Heart." He was, once again, spot-on, coming off as a seasoned country veteran with all the right shading and phrasing to deliver the song's emotion. But you have to wonder: How many weeks can he essentially do the same thing and still advance?
It felt to Lopez like he pushed his vocal range out a bit more with this song, and the panel agreed that he'd shown enough growth to justify another week in the game.
Born in 1989, Karen Rodriguez went diva with Taylor Dayne's other hit, "Love Will Lead You Back." Wearing a kind of "Austin Powers" silver space miniskirt, Rodriguez had passion and again threw in some Spanish lyrics, but in the words of ex-judge Simon Cowell, it all felt a bit louche hotel lounge.
It started rough for Randy, who said it was better than last week but still not all that. Jennifer sensed some fear at first, but praised Rodriguez for sticking to her guns and attacking the song. "If you are nervous about certain notes, don't go there," she said. "As a professional, you never have to. Never expose your weaknesses; play to your strengths."
After a second trip this season to the hospital, unlikely hirsute sex symbol Casey Abrams (1991) notched a couple of milestones on Wednesday night when he played electric bass while performing the first-ever song by grunge gods Nirvana on the show. He transformed the nearly untouchable "Smells Like Teen Spirit" into a dark-funk rave-up, busting out his best crazy eyes and screeching and screaming a bit more than usual, while putting lots of energy into the bizarre, horn-laden cover of the modern-rock classic.
"You're so crazy and you're so talented," said Tyler, who knows of what he speaks. "That's the goop that great stuff is made of, and you got it." Randy said he appreciated Abrams' willingness to take risks and put art before commerce and always switch things up.
The other 16-year-old finalist, Lauren Alaina (1994), was also battling the flu and a poor performance last week. She dug into "I'm the Only One" by Melissa Etheridge, putting some of her deep-voiced country sass on the tune and putting up some powerful, nuanced vocals, despite her illness.
After singing along during the performance, Lopez gave Alaina props for sticking to the frame of the song while putting her own imprint on it, and Randy said if that's how she sounds with a cold, she should have one every week.
The final slot of the night belonged to Jacob Lusk (1987), who went way off the path by choosing the ballad "Alone" by female rock duo Heart. After a tentative opening, he exploded into the chorus, throwing down his gospel power and vibrato into the tune, which got a bit frantic at times but definitely highlighted his intensity.
Randy appreciated the attempt to step out of his comfort zone, even if the vocals went a bit wobbly in the middle and nodded to Jacob's decision to go subtle instead of bombastic at the end.
The show opened with Tyler, Lopez and Jackson announcing that proceeds from the sale of the second weekly "Idol" download album would go to the Red Cross' efforts to help the people of Japan in the wake of last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Thursday night's results show will feature the return of last year's winner, Lee DeWyze, who will be on hand to sing his new single, "Beautiful Like You," along with the Black Eyed Peas, who will perform their latest, "Just Can't Get Enough."(MTV)

Angeline denies competition with Sarah, gears up for 1st CD

MANILA, Philippines - "Star Power"'s first grand winner Angeline Quinto said there is no competition between her and Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo.
In fact, Geronimo is one of her inspirations, she told "The Buzz".
"Wala naman po. Sobrang wala. Kasi si Sarah Geronimo po eh isa po talaga sa naging inspirasyon ko 'yan sa 'Star Power'," Quinto told host KC Concepcion, who played her in her life story dramatized by "Maalaala Mo Kaya" last Saturday.
Quintos's life was changed after she lost to Geronimo in the singing competition "Star For A Night" in 2002.
On March 5, Quinto had a chance to perform with Geronimo on the same stage.
Quinto said that she was really happy singing with the Pop Star Princess.
"Natutuwa po ako kasi sobra ang suporta din po sa akin ni Sarah. Sobrang naramdaman ko din po ang pag-welcome niya sa akin sa 'ASAP Rocks' kaya sobrang bow po ako kay Sarah talaga. Sobra po," she said.

Sarah threatened by rising star Angeline?

MANILA, Philippines - Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo reacted to reports saying that she is threatened by "Star Power’s” first grand winner Angeline Quinto.
In an interview with "The Buzz," Geronimo merely laughed off the rumors, adding that it is not the right attitude.
"Masaya ‘yong iniisip ninyo na may threat. Ano psycho? Hindi, hindi magandang ugali yon," Geronimo said.
Geronimo stressed that she's happy for Quinto, who she considers as a friend.
"Masayang masaya ako for Angeline. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, sa wakas talaga. Kasi lalo na noong marinig ko ang istorya niya, ‘yong nangyari, masakit sa akin na malaman ko na ganoon ang nangyari at itong pagkapanalo niya ay sobra akong natutuwa," she said.
In 2002, Quinto lost to Geronimo in singing competition "Star For A Night."
Geronimo also accepted that, from now on, she will always be compared to Quinto.
"Lahat naman tayo laging may darating na mas okay sa iyo. ‘Yon ang challenge doon. Kailangan mong i-sustain kung ano ang mayroon ka at ipagdarasal mo din kung ano ang plano sa iyo ng Diyos at healthy competition lang," she said.
The singer believes that it is now Quinto's time to shine.
"Ang masasabi ko lang time talaga ni Angeline ngayon. Kailangang pangalagaan ko na lang kung anuman ang mayroon ako," she stressed.
Last March 6, Quinto and Geronimo held their much anticipated showdown on variety show "ASAP Rocks."
Geronimo admitted that she felt nervous doing a song number with Quinto.
"Nakaka-tensyon ang duet namin. Nanginginig ang tuhod ko. Hindi naman kasi kami dapat kabahan pero alam mo naman parang laging ganoon. Parang pinag sho-showdown, parang concert ulit. Sana hindi na ganoon sa susunod na production number together para mas magawa namin ng maayos," she said.
Currently, Geronimo is filming her first movie with Action-Drama Prince Gerald Anderson.(abs-cbnnews)

American Idol Season 10 updates - Casey Adams was hospitalized

For the second time in two weeks, American Idol's Casey Abrams has been hospitalized for stomach pain, and according to show sources, the problem is bleeding ulcers.

"That poor guy's in a world of hurt," says one source.

After thrilling the judges with his rendition of Joe Cocker's "With A Little Help From My Friends" on Wednesday, Abrams was M.I.A. from last night's results show. According to sources, the talented 20-year-old musician and film camp counselor from Idyllwild, California, showed up for rehearsals at 9:30 Thursday morning.

He was supposed to practice the Michael Jackson group number and, along with everyone else, learn how to use his new "In-Ear," a custom-made, molded earpiece that allows singers to hear themselves properly on stage.

But immediately after arriving at the studio, says another source, Abrams "turned around and walked right back out." He was taken to an undisclosed emergency room.

Fox is not commenting on Abrams' illness beyond what Idol host Ryan Seacrest said during the results show. "You'll notice that Casey is missing from the group," said Seacrest. "He is unfortunately sick and in the hospital right now. Wave to him. We know you're watching, buddy. Feel better. Shout out to the nurses. Get back here soon, okay?"

This is the second time that Abrams has missed out on an important part of the show. On February 24, he didn't attend the party for the Top 24 semi-finalists at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel. At that time, Fox reps said that Abrams was having "stomach issues."

But the verdict from the first results show should make him feel better: he was safe. The eliminated singer was Ashthon Jones.

The R&B singer gave Diana Ross another shot after learning she had received the least viewer votes, performing "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" in a long-shot attempt to win the judges' singular safe card for the season. Jennifer Lopez gently broke the news that their decision not to save her was unanimous, telling Ashton, "I was rooting for you, baby."

Jones also performed Diana Ross' "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" during last night's episode, which prompted Lopez to suggest singing a more popular Ross hit. "I've had a beautiful experience," Jones said in her farewell. "I just want to say thank you, America." Relive Jones' performance from last night (Mar. 9) below.

Former "Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert also took the stage tonight, showing a softer side with a stunning acoustic version of his most recent single, "Aftermath." Sitting atop a stool with his bandmates surrounding him, Lambert -- who host Ryan Seacrest touted as "truly setting the bar for style and spectacle on this stage" -- appeared cool, calm and collected. Watch below.

Additionally, Dirty-Diddy Money took the stage later in the show to perform their hit "Coming Home," with the song's hook songstress Skylar Grey joining the group. The show kicked off with the full cast of contestants performing a medley of Michael Jackson hits. Watch both "Coming Home" and the MJ medley below.

Tonight's "Idol" featured more than just Jones' swan song and performances from Diddy and Lambert: Casey Abrams was not present, due to further health problems that landed the contestant back in the hospital.(Billboard)

Disney Star Demi Lovato speaks about her rehab stint

(foxnews) Disney starlet Demi Lovato addressed her fans in a video message posted over the weekend, speaking publicly for the first time about her stint in a Chicago-area rehab facility and thanking fans for their support, Us Weekly reported Monday.

Lovato, 18, left the rehab facility in late January after two months of treatment to deal with "emotional and physical issues," including eating disorders and self-mutilation.

She reportedly punched dancer Alex Welch in the face on board a private jet in October 2010 while she was touring with the Jonas Brothers.

In the video, Lovato tells her fans: "I wanted to let you know that I am back and home." She goes on to describe her time in rehab as "probably the darkest time of my life."

She thanks fans for sending her messages of support on Twitter, saying: "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the support you guys have given me along the way ... Your support is what got me through this."

It was not clear if or when Lovato would return to work on her Disney Channel series "Sonny With a Chance." The cable network announced in November 2010 that it would rework the show to focus on other characters and guest stars so production, scheduled to begin in January, could move forward without the teenage star.
